Introduction Eating disorders are a significant problem in the United States among children and adolescents of all ethnic groups (Nicholls & Viner, 2005). Anorexia nervosa (AN) has the highest death rate of any mental health disorder (Hoek, 2006). Of the millions of Americans who are diagnosed annually with an eating disorder, an estimated 90 percent are adolescent females (Ice, as cited by Eating Disorders Coalition, 2005).
